CLASSIC RERUN?

TOP SHELF 7 (11-0-1-1) vs STALLIONS 0 (5-8-0-0)

Friday, May 11, 700pm - EAST

Even though it was brief...it brought on a hint of nostalgia.  The days of the 7-goal mercy rule are definitely a thing of the past...but for 28 seconds on Friday night, Top Shelf had a chance to relive days gone by.

After battling the Stallions down to the wire in each of the last two contests, including an impressive 4-goal comeback in the final 14 minutes of last weeks game, Top Shelf finally got relief of sorts...as a 4-goal outburst, this time in the final 6 minutes of the first half, for once, gave the team some breathing room from the Stallions.

The late first-half surge seemed to take the wind out of the Stallions sails, as Top Shelf buried three more in the second half, including the team's first short-handed marker of the season when Jake Penner capped the scoring putting home his second of the night with just 28 seconds remaining.

The last time Top Shelf hit the 7-goal mercy rule limit in a regular season game, was way back on July 10, 2009 in a 10-1 rout of the Silver Kings.

Top Shelf's next action will come on Wednesday in a huge tilt against the second place Cavemen.  Gametime is 8:15 at the West Soccer Center.

 Around Division 2...

preview...

SUNDAY, MAY 6

Killer Bees (0-7-1-2) vs Mustangs (3-5-1-1) 500 pm

With ten games gone by and not a single win to show for it, things have got to be getting a little testy for the Bees.  Whether they wanted to or not, they survived the re-tier, meaning they'll have some work to do if they hope to climb out of the division basement.  The Mustangs are the closest team in the standings...but are 5-points clear.

Stallions (4-7-0-0) vs Crown Royals (4-4-1-1) 615 pm

Two of the more exciting teams in the division will square off for the second time this season.  The Crown Royals took the first meeting 5-2...but have fallen on tough times since, going just 2-5-1 in their last 8 games.  Meanwhile, the Stallions have won 3 of their last 5 including impressive victories over both the Raging Bulls and Dirty Birds.

Predators (5-5-0-0) vs Dirty Birds (6-4-0-0) 730 pm

Just two points seperate these two clubs in the standings heading into this one.  The Birds took the only head-to-head matchup of the season 5-3 and have been hot of late, winning 4 of their last 5.  The Preds are riding a 2-game winning streak of their own.

Raging Bulls (6-4-0-0) vs Cavemen (7-3-0-0) 845 pm

The Cavemen have only lost to two teams all year...and the Raging Bulls weren't one of them.  The Bulls will look to avenge a 6-4 loss, and in the process, draw even with the Cavemen in the standings.   A Cavemen win would pull them to within four points of first place.
